Bulletproof hanky is life-saving accessory
An Icelandic designer has created the world's first bullet-proof handkerchief – aimed at well-dressed gentlemen with dangerous lifestyles.

The life-saving accessory, aimed at James Bond wannabes, sits in the breast pocket in order to "protect the heart of men" and is made from Kevlar, which is five times stronger than steel.

The material, which is used to make protective vests and Formula 1 cars, can withstand a bullet as well as temperatures of up to around 400 degrees centigrade.

Only ten of the stylish handkerchiefs are currently available, all in a tasteful yellow and bordered with either raw golden silk or citric French cotton.

The handkerchiefs are priced at 120 euros (around 94), but the designer, Sluli Recht, emphasises that he takes "NO responsibility for schmucks and wooden-heads who feel compelled to test the endurance or resistance of the textile in any way".

Althuogh Mr Recht has previously released a bullet-proof coat and plans to extend his Kevlar collection, he still cannot compete with Mexican tailor Miguel Caballero.

In his small boutique in Mexico City, jackets and shirts are not stacked by size but by how well they will stop a bullet. Caballero uses a secret material, the most expensive version of which, called Black, is so light that it can be scrunched up like paper.

He also runs a special customer reward scheme called The Survivors' Club.

Caballero is successful because he operates in a country where there are over 3,000 murders each year and two or three kidnappings per day.

Although Iceland is normally much safer, its overnight economic collapse may prompt recently unemployed bankers to start wearing Mr Sluli's handkerchiefs close to their hearts.

It is totally bulletproof. when they dig it out from the wall behind where you were standing when fatally shot, they will find that it is in perfect condition!

initially I thought it might have been lost in translation and was counting on it actually being a booger proof hankerchief. Oh well.

They should go back to steel-clad New Testaments! At least they might slow the bullet down.
